Health Secretary discards avian flu in SP
The São Paulo State’s Health Secretary discarded this wednesday the possibility of an avian flu case in the town of Marília, in the state’s countryside.
The first suspected case of avian flu in the country was recorded this wednesday at a farm in the town. The bird was found dead by the proprerty’s owner, who didn’t want to be identified. With the suspicion, the region was interdicted by the Sanitary Surveilance.
The Health Secretary, through its press office, informed that Marília is not a migratory route for birds coming from Asia or Canada and that there’s no chance the rooster would have been infected with the H5N1 virus, which causes the avian flu.
Still, the rooster’s remains were sent this thursday to be analyzed at a laboratory in Campinas. The test wil verify the bird’s cause of death.
