Solon Brochado: Obviously, the Workers’ Party national president, Ricardo Berzoini, didn’t have good things to say about Veja’s story Cisco mentioned on the last post. But while his PSDB and PFL conspiracy theory is what you would expect from someone in his position, it must be said that, ever since Lula took office, Veja has been practicing the worst kind of partisan journalism you could expect from such a renowned magazine.
Berzoini denies the PT received US$3 mi from Cuba
PT’s national president, Ricardo Berzoini, this saturday criticized this week’s Veja piece, that denounces the party of receiving US$ 3 million from Cuba for president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s 2002 campaign.
“‘Veja’ has said the PT has received money from the FARC [Colombian Revolutionary Armed Forces] and hasn’t proved anything yet. The magazine has become a second-tier pamphlet for PSDB and PFL”, said Berzoini during the opening of the National Sectors Meetings, at São Paulo’s Municipal Chamber’s plenary.
The PT national president also disqualified the magazine’s editorial line and said the “publication has no authority to do this sort of denouncement while it doesn’t prove the accusations it’s been making against the party”.
Berzoini also spoke to the journalists on the PSDB and PFL proposal of creating a CPI [Parliamentary Inquiry Comission] to investigate the Caixa 2 [the use of undeclared money on political campaigns]. To him, it’s all a political maneuver to mislead public opinion. “We’re not against the investigations, but we can’t allow the CPI’s to become maneuvers to paralyze the country”.
